Revolution in filter choice could reduce life time costs (August 2011)

A new introduction from world leading filter manufacturer MAHLE Industriefiltration GmbH, means that now all air systems that utilise 3-lug-fixing cartridges – no matter who the manufacturer is - can benefit from their innovative conical filter technology.

Stoke-on-Trent based Dustcheck are the sole distributor of MAHLE Filters in the UK and Ireland and have been for over 30 years. Joint Managing Director Ed Spires is looking forward to the arrival of the new products and said:

“This is the first time MAHLE have manufactured products for other people's machines. It's a new territory for us but MAHLE as a world leading producer of filters has done its research and we know the market will be receptive to the many advantages of conical filtration.”

The new range of filters have been designed to fit any 3-lug fixing system, common within the dust extraction field. The launch is hoping to see users of standard parallel, cylindrical filters make the switch to conical filtration, and in doing so reap benefits such as:

Better cleaning – even spread of compressed air ensures even filtration
Superior dust sedimentation due to lower approach velocities
Lower differential pressure stability
Regular flow rate over the whole length of the filter

“There are environmental benefits too as less waste is produced and less energy used. The lower lifetime costs must appeal as the conical filters need to be replaced less frequently. This improved operation time will mean lower maintenance and house keeping so it really is a win win from all angles,” added Ed.

The new filters will cover most applications utilising MAHLE'S range of filter medias as well as anti static medias where ATEX standards are required. The range does includes parallel filters, also designed to fit all 3-lug systems.

Many systems also still operate a standard reverse jet cleaning system which if performing poorly, will shorten the life of any filter. Dustcheck can supply a MAHLE jet cleaning systems which is matched to the cartridge size meaning improved performance and reduced costs due to more efficient use of compressed air:

“Many systems are currently under-performing whilst operating poorly designed reverse jet cleaning systems. MAHLE jets, designed for each cartridge to offer optimum cleaning efficiency, improve the performance of the reverse jet pulse which in turn will reduce house keeping requirements as well as maintenance and waste,” concluded Ed.

The new filters are available in diameters of 145mm, 156mm, 220mm and 328mm and in lengths from 600mm to1200mm for the parallel shape or from 500mm to 1200mm for the conical version.
